When the suffix -ly is added to an adjective such as neat, the following happens to the word:
A. it becomes an adverb.
The word, an adjective, becomes an adverb of manner, that is, it expresses in what way a certain action is carried out.
Examples:
Lady Gaga can sing beautifully. (beautiful+ly= beautifully- in a beautiful way)
She also acts brilliantly. (brilliant+ly= brilliantly- in a brilliant way)
Plus, she dances gorgeously. (gorgeous+ly= gorgeously- in a gorgeous way)
The singer treats reporters kindly. (kind+ly= kindly- in a kind way)
