D government officials should all base there decisions on the law before considering the will of the majority
One important principle of republicanism, one of the core political ideologies that the US is based on, is the supremacy of the Constitution and other bodies of law for government officials, not the will of the majority. Sometimes the majority wants to do illegal things, and marginalize smaller groups, so government officials first and foremost swear their allegiance to the Constitution, not to the majority.
