Which of these activities is not considered to be a marine ecosystem threat? overfishing. ocean pollution. coastal development. ocean alkalinity?

Respuesta :

Coastal Development.

Activity that is not considered to be a marine ecosystem threat is ocean alkalinity. Alkalinity is important for fish and aquatic life because it protects against rapid pH changes and can neutralize the acid. Increasing ocean alkalinity can prevent climate change.

The main sources for natural alkalinity are rocks which contain carbonate, bicarbonate, and hydroxide compounds. Higher alkalinity levels in surface waters will prevent water and pH changes that are harmful to aquatic life.

Further explanation

The ocean plays an essential to life on earth. For humans, It helps regulate our climate, controls weather patterns and produces oxygen to breathe. However, today the ocean is under threat from the effects of climate change, over-fishing, pollution, and coastal development.

1. Overfishing. Overfishing happens when the fishes caught by the vessel is faster than stocks can replenish. Many people rely on fisheries, as global demand od fish products also raise.

2. Ocean pollution. About a quarter of our current carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the atmosphere are absorbed by the oceans. This has caused a slight decrease in pH levels, a process known as “ocean acidification." There can be several causes of ocean pollutant include sewage, toxic chemicals from industries, nuclear waste, plastic, and oil spillage.

3. Coastal developments have some impact on coastal life and environment such as increased erosion, increased pollution, and increased boat traffic - all of this will harm the marine species and lead to habitat loss.
