I'm Spanish myself and I'd personally say verb. Eg: ¿Quién es él? 
Quién would be the pronoun, es the verb, and él the subject. 
¿Quién es la niña? Quién is also the pronoun, es the verb and la niña would be the subject, composed by a definite article and a noun.
