Increased participation in social reform-- Educated women drove the reforms of the Progressive Era in particular those focused on family issues, immigration, children, and women's rights.
Women worked on improving the lives of children by helping to pass laws ending child labor and increasing access for public education for those children. Women also worked in creating settlement houses for immigrants which taught American culture, English, and helped immigrants find jobs and homes. Women also worked to gain the right to vote for women through the passage of the 19th Amendment. Women were also found on the front lines of the temperance movement claiming alcohol ruined the stability of families and caused physical and financial harm. Women would help to achieve the prohibition of alcohol with the passage of the 18th Amendment.
