run it under cold tapwater until it doesn't hurt anymore, then cover LOOSELY with gauze. go to the ER but do NOT put ice on it, this can actually damage the skin more.

Burns are common skin injuries that are classified in different degrees of gravity.

The rank fluctuates depending on the skin and cell damage, this rank is higher when the burn is more serious and considered a real emergency (3rd degree) and lower when it is a not too considerable lesion and only provokes symptoms as red, non-blistered skin.

At the middle of these two is the second-degree burn, characterized by blisters and skin thickening, the immediate methods to treat it are:

  • The water usage is a key point, once the burn happens, immerse the damaged extremity or part of the body into a cool water recipient, between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the individual comfortability sensation.
  • To regulate the pain it´s recommended to ingest analgesics like Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen.
  • The infection is one of the most delicate aspects of a burn, applying antibiotic topics onto the injury, it´s vital to avoid bacteria, infections and other harmful agents.
  • Once the pain and the first moments of the accident passes, avoid contact with the injury (besides the topics) in order to guarantee faster and more effective healing.
