Yes The Yuan Dynasty suppressed Chinese Culture, while the Ming pushed for it. The reason is because The Yuan Dynasty was founded by the Mongols specifically Kublai Khan. The Mongols like many other Chinese neighbors had grudges against China, therefore they committed many atrocities against them and suppressed the culture when they took over. When the Ming took China they were the original Han Chinese, and brought back Chinese Culture.
