According to Erikson, Jack's chief task will be acquiring sense of identity. This is the fifth phase in Erikson's theory of social development which includes adolescence. At this stage, teenagers ask themselves "Who am I?", "Where am I going?" and "What is the purpose of my life?". As they pass through this crisis, adolescents are trying to develop their identity. They also go to through emotional and physical maturation.
