It might be said that the theme reflected in this excerpt is women´s role in society. It might reflect how they should behave and do according to a patriarchal society. When he is saying "what would we do without the ladies? " he might be stating that women do everything for them (like cleaning the towels) so men would not know how to manage without this "dependence" they have on them. However, women had to cope with aggressive comments when they do not fulfill what they expected from them
