The Reign of Terror is the period, from mid 1793 to mid 1794, when Maximilen Robespierre ruled France nearly as a dictator and thousands of political figures and ordinary citizens were executed. In July 1794 fearing for their own safety, some members of the National Convention turned on Robespierre.
