Ancient Chinese people used steel and iron to develope his society through new inventions. First of all, iron agricultural tools were developed by the Chinese to increase production and reduce the costs, as these tools had a longer duration than the wood ones. Time after this, with the technology increasing its developement (bigger ships, maritime trading, etc), the Chinese used steel to make chains for suspension bridges, in order to agilize maritime commerce and make internal rivers navigable.
