Monomial is one term that is expressed as a real number, a variable, a product, or quotient of a variable and real number.
A monomial is a polynomial which has only one term. A monomial also called power product, is also a product of powers. Monomials include numbers, whole numbers and variables that are multiplied together, and variables that are multiplied together. Any number, all by itself, is a monomial, for example 5 or 2,700. Another example is 2b is a monomial in one variable b. 2ax/3y is a monomial in three variables a, x and y. k2 is also a monomial in one variable k. To factor a monomial means to express it as a product of two or more monomials.
Whereas a polynomial as oppose to the monomial is a sum of monomials where each monomial is called a term. While an expression with a single term a monomial, an expression with two terms is a binomial, and an expression with three terms is a trinomial.
