The Phoenicians are one of the great ancient civilization, they inhabited the land of Canaan (what is now Lebanon), at the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, from 1500 BC to 300 BC approximately.
One of his major inventions was the alphabet in 1200 BC, which became the foundation of most Western language that is used nowadays.
Their invention surged from the hieroglyphics the Egyptians created. The Phoenicians simplified the form by introducing a system consisting of 22 phonetic letters. It later evolved and became the basis for the Greek and Latin alphabetical systems, which became the basis of the modern western language.
