A neuron receiving impulses from two or more different axons is experiencing a spatial summation, a process of summing the excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials that occur in the synapses that are established in different parts of a neuron, several neurons release a limited amount of NT and only the the summation of several of them may provoke the action potential in the post-synaptic neuron.
A neuron that is receiving impulses from two or more different axon is experiencing CONVERGENCE.
Convergence occurs when multiple inputs converge to a single neuron. Convergence allows for integration of signals from different sources. There are two types of convergence, single and multiple points convergence, that is, the impulses may come from a single source or from a multiple source.
