The pull of water evaporating from the leaves is the force that moves water through plants is the force behind the process known as transpiration. Water is lost into the environment through stomata.  Transpiration, the evaporation of water from leaves, exerts a pull that bears the primary responsibility for the movement of water and solutes from roots to leaves.
