One example of development/innovation in medicine is certainly the development of anesthesia and hand scrubbing before the procedure for example. While we might think this has been a regular occurence in medicine and surgery forever, we couldn't be more wrong.
Hand scrubbing and anesthesia drastically reduced the complications of certain operations as well as improved outcome rates in surgeries and both have been regularly practiced since the 20h century.
