let's bring both fractions to the same form ok?
[tex] \frac{1}{6} = \frac{1*2}{6*2} = \frac{2}{12} [/tex]
[tex] \frac{3}{4} = \frac{3*3}{4*3} = \frac{9}{12} [/tex]
so, if every day he paints
[tex] \frac{2}{12} [/tex]
then after the second day he will have
[tex] \frac{4}{12} [/tex]
after the third
[tex] \frac{6}{12} [/tex]
after the forth
[tex] \frac{8}{12} [/tex]
and in the middle of the firth day he will have
[tex] \frac{9}{12} [/tex], or 3/4!
(alternatively 9/2=4.5, so he needs 4 and a half days)
