Slaves contributed labor to the treadgar works that were in major cities through the confederacy the most notable being in Richmond Virginia. The treadgar ironworks was a major factor in the decision of where to have the confederate capital and was a major manufacturer of munitions for the confederacy which is why they were able to put up a fight against the union.
