The Byzantine Empire made its most important contribution to us by preserving much of the Greco-Roman heritage. Given the fact that the Emperors of Byzantine saw and maintained a great deal of their origins from the later Roman Empire, they managed to preserve major institutions such as the Senate, rules of law, etc.
