In the years immediately after the Civil war, the Americans showed little interest in expanding their nation's territory and international power because the Americans were completely focussed and dedicated to rebuilding the industries, reconstructing the South and settling the west. The years of Civil war was pretty devastating for the economic growth of America, and so their nmain focus was to rebuild the economy. During this time, the planters of the south started looking for more and more favourable land for planting cotton and tobacco.
