Organisms that carry two genes or alleles for particular traits are called diploid organisms. Humans are a good example of diploid organisms, which means we get each half of our genes from our parents. A diploid organism carrying two unique alleles for a single trait is called a "heterozygote", while a diploid organism with two identical alleles for a single trait is called a "homozygote".
