A result of Anne Hutchinson publicly questioning the teachings of Puritan leaders was that she was tried, convicted, imprisoned and then banished from the colony with some of her supporters. Her religious schism threatened the Protestant church, as well as this was coupled with her somewhat feminist views, as well as her ideas about religious tolerance.
