Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel masterwork was a controversy. His
original mural restricted many totally naked characters as well as Christ and
his mother Mary. A Roman Catholic Cardinal named Carafa saw the fresco and indicted
the artist of immorality and obscenity. The Cardinal soon registered the aid of
a Monsignor Sernini to start a movement to have the work detached or changed.
