The Free Soilers came to Kansas in the 1800's. They came for several reasons, but the main reason was to ensure that Kansas voted to become a free state. The Free Soilers didn't stay long as a political party and eventually got picked up into the Republican party.
The Free Soil Party was a short-lived political party in the United States active in the 1848 and 1852 presidential elections as well as in some state elections. Iits main purpose was to oppose the expansion of slavery into the Western territories, claiming that free men on free soil constituted a morally and economically superior system to slavery.
