Remarks Concerning the Savages of North America is a work by Benjamin Franklin, in which he exposes his ideas on the Native American people of the United States. The text is particularly significant because it is among the first American written works to promote tolerance.
In it, Franklin presents the idea of allowing the Native Americans to continue their traditional way of life. Even more surprising, considering the time period, is the fact that Franklin suggest that the colonists can learn a lot from the Natives, and that their lack of "civilization" does not mean they are any less human than the European colonizers.
