Standing committees- deal with issues of permanent legislation
conference committees- when different versions of a bill are passes by the house and senate, a conference committee is formed to to reconcile the difference between the bills
select committees- temporary, usually conducts investigations
joint committees- members of both the house and senate that meet to discuss a specific issues or topic (examples would be healthcare, tax reform, gun control, etc.)
