There are two classes that are bad for diabetes: protease inhibitors and nucleoside
reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs)
The use of this drugs can lead to
insulin resistance and high levels of sugar in the blood. Also,if the patient wasn't diabetic, taking this drugs can make him one. An example of this link is the protease inhibitor:indinavir.For the same reasons, NRTIs should not be used by diabetics.
Nucleoside reverse transcriptase and protease inhibitor are class of antiretroviral drugs that are particularly troublesome to patients with diabetes. This is because these drugs develop insulin resistance in the blood.
