It might be said that Lizabeth is the one to whom compassion gives her maturity. And this is due to her understanding of  Mrs Lottie, she learns that the woman had a heart and she stopped bothering her. The girl ended up seen through the eyes of adulthood, with eyes of compassion that makes her develop from childhood to maturity.
