The framers of the constitution provided an
amendment process so that the constitution can be a "living, breathing
document" meaning that it would adapt to people's needs. They knew well
that it was not protecting all the rights and that somewhere along the line,
people would want more rights or would want to edit the wording of the
document. The only way to do this is through the amendment process. They wanted
it to to be available.
