This expression is awkward. Your (1/4)^--2 should be written (1/4)^(-2).
Also, your x 2 should be written x^2 (the square of x).
But maybe that's not what you meant!
Your apparent use of "x" to indicate "multiply" makes things harder and more confusing. Please use " * " ONLY to denote multiplication.

(1/4)^(-2) - 1*2*1^(-1) and here is the evaluation:
16 - 2 = 32
