Active Transport- movement of materials across a membrane that requires an input of energy from a cell.
Passive Transport- movement of materials across a membrane that does not require energy from the cell
Diffusion- process in which atoms and molecules move from an area where they are more concentrated to an area where they are less concentrated.
Endocytosis- the movement of materials into a cell by use of a vesicle.
Exocytosis- the movement of materials out of a cell by use of a vesicle
Facilitated Diffusion-the process of spontaneous passive transport
Homeostasisthe tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes
Hypertonic-having a higher osmotic pressure than a particular fluid, typically a body fluid or intracellular fluid.
Hypotonic-having a lower osmotic pressure than a particular fluid, typically a body fluid or intracellular fluid.
Isotonicdenoting or relating to a solution having the same osmotic pressure as some other solution, especially one in a cell or a body fluid.
Osmosis- the diffusion of water through a membrane that is selectively permeable to the water more than other molecules
Permeable
allowing liquids or gases to pass through it.
