So you need to isolate the variable in order to get your answer. This is how you do it.
3x + 5 = 2x - 7
Subtract 2x from both sides.
1x + 5 = -7
Subtract 5 from both sides to have the variable by itself.
1x = -12
Divide 1 to both sides to find the value of x.
x = -12
Now we need to check.
3(-12) + 5 = 2(-12) - 7
-36 + 5 = -24 - 7
-31 = -31
Since both sides or the same you now know that -12 is the solution.
I hope this helps love! :)
