It was the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) that was created to work covertly in communist countries, although now of course most of its efforts are directed elsewhere.
After the end of the Second World War, the United States and the Soviet Union entered a prolonged period of tense relations also known as "The Cold War".
In the 1950s, the "Domino Theory" was introduced, which stated that if one country in a region came under the influence of Communism, its neighbors would follow suit. In an attempt to prevent the effects promoted by that theory and guarantee the security for all citizens within the country, the Federal Government decided to create The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on September 18, 1947.
