The Romans government developed a number of elements. Overall the system was known as the Republic and parts of their model were adopted in various countries through to the modern day, including the USA. Ordinary people (Males over 15) qualified as Citizens and eventually all were freed from slavery and most were allowed to vote The Senate was the key to power for much of ancient Roman Republic it's make up was mostly of 100 already powerful individuals. The senate elected Consuls who oversaw different areas. There were frequently difficult power struggles between the Senate and the Emperor. The documentation of laws and the idea of equality under the law were major principles the system supported.
