The graph attached shows how the society in Ancient Egypt was divided in five tiers, located below the pharaoh. Right after the pharaoh there was the vizier, his chief advisor. Then there were the nobles and priests in the second tier, followed by scribes and soldiers that constituted the third or middle tier. The scribes were the one who knew how to read and write and who were in charge of keeping records. Right after, artisans or craftsmen, who were skilled workers, comprised the fourth tier. The fifth or bottom tiers was constituted by slaves and unskilled workers such as farmers.
