Less: Individuals with larger numbers of LDL receptors are less likely to develop atherosclerosis. LDL receptors on the liver are responsible for uptake of cholesterol from the blood and regulate cholesterol synthesis. Those with a higher number of receptors will clear cholesterol quickly, lower levels in the blood, and decrease chances of atherosclerosis.
