The prosecution must provide an argument that the defendant is guilty of the crime or crimes charged on him beyond a reasonable doubt.  A case is then created with direct or circumstantial pieces of evidence. It is in the building of evidence where eyewitnesses and character witnesses play an important role. Evidence presented by them may accuse or acquit the person in trial.
