you can do anything to an equaiton as long as you do it to both sides
if you multiply or divide both sides by a negative, flip the inequality direction
3(x-4)<-15
divide both sides by 3
x-4<-5
add 4 to both sides
x<-1

Divide Each side by 3:
x - 4 < -5
Add 5 to both sides:
x < -1
