Nikolai Gogol's short story of "The Nose" is a satirical story of how people were so obsessed with power and position after the order of Peter the Great. He had introduced the "Table of Ranks' that determines and gives position and rank to even ordinary people by providing service to the state. This also led to many bureaucracies to arise, leading to more and more power struggle.

Major Kovalyov one morning found that his nose is missing from his face. Unknown to him, it had been found in a loaf of bread by his barber,  Ivan Yakovlevich. He spent his days trying to get back the nose, which had taken on a human form and had even reached the rank of State Councillor, surpassing his owner. Even after he had got it back, he was unable to reattach it back on his face nor fixable by any doctor. Lastly, on the 7th of April, he woke up to find that the nose had been back on his face, sticking in between his two cheeks.
