This pattern pushes warm, dry African winds called siroccos toward Europe. These winds originate as hot, dry desert-air over Northern Africa and flow northward into the southern Mediterranean basin. The characteristics of the sirocco depend on the location where they are and accordingly this type of winds have many different names.
