The major consequences of World War I include the distrust of people for other countries. This led to instability and a difficulty to make balanced agreements. Germany was one of the countries that felt taken advantage of. Since they lost, the Allied forces decided to make it pay for all the losses, in addition to giving away land.
This caused resentment in the German people. Other nations, such as Italy, felt like they hadn't gotten what they deserved, because of the unfair territory boundaries. Germany lost a lot of land, while Italy gained almost nothing. The cause for all this was the League of Nations, which forced Germany to pay reparations numbering in billions of dollars. Because of this resentment, World War II happened 15 years later. Another limiting factor was that of the Treaty of Versailles, which did not work out successful due to the erroneous placement of border lines.
In addition, the Greatest positive outcome of the war was the fact that Empires were broken up into smaller states, therefore politically the war was a good way of liberating countries. It also helped women get voting rights, so in a way the social outcomes of the war was positive. British, German and Russian woman all won voting rights in 1918, having been very patriotic in their hard work producing munitions during the war. The war gave women more freedom.
The greatest negative outcome of the war is the obvious loss of life. A total of 37.5 miilion people were killed, wounded or missing, 15% of all combatants This had a huge impact on the major countries both economically and socially, as the loss of men in these countries meant that many jobs were lost. Socially, most countries feel that they ‘lost a generation’ due to the war. The war left a lot of the major countries in a state, as there were huge inflation rates and high unemployment levels.
The appaling loss of life during the war resulted in huge economic losses in the major participants , particulary Russia. Having lost Ukraine, their ‘Bread basket’ Russia suffered a famine in 1921. Both Russia and Germany suffered revolutions in 1918.
Overall, the war had more negative impacts than positive impacts on the participating countries. A lot of Countries suffered revolutions and the Pandemic flu in the autumn of 1918 made things worse, as it killed more people then the war itself
