On one end, Ashoka worked towards expanding the influence of Buddhism throughout India by teaching his followers and others who would listen to him, thus broadening the impact of Buddhism. On the other hand, Kanishka diminished the understanding of Buddhist thought by mitigating the conversations about it within India.
