When subtracting integers, if you’re subtracting from a positive integer, you subtract regularly. When you’re subtracting a negative integer, you actually add. For example -8 - 6 = -14. You add 8 and 6 to get 14, and then put the negative sign in front of it. Another example: 7 - (-9) = 16. You add 7 and 9, because two negatives make a positive. When you do that, the sum is 16.
