It might be said that Sumerian society emerged from the plain of Tigris and Euphrates Rivers about 4000 B.C. The communities were city states organized around a temple and rules by a priesthood. People were servants and slaves of the god of the temple. There also was a class of craftsmen, priests and peasants.
