The answer is: the inability to observe employees closely.
Managers are in charge of the operations, dynamics, efficiency and general work developed in an office setting. For this reason, they are the overseers of the work´s environment and its productivity, therefore, being cut off from the quotidian activities of her workers —by having an office space separated from them— means that she cannot observe and manage her employee´s development as closely as it could be if she was immersed in the office space like any other employee.
