The first activity of the digestive system is when you take in food through the mouth. That process is called: Ingestion. This process has to happen first before anything else can happen. The large pieces of food that are ingested have to be broken into smaller particles that can be acted upon by many different enzymes.
I know this because I learned about it in school and I just researched it to make sure I am correct.
