The Carolingian Dynasty is also referred to as the reign of Charlemagne. The reign was known because of the leader’s political achievements and not just about the war fares. During the Frankish Empire, he also made significant improvement in literacy and culture. The very reason that it was called the Carolingian Renaissance was because there was a tendency to the ideals of the Ancient Rome, and the very idea of restitution of literacy, culture and art. The Renaissance was tagged with Charlemagne and was known for the revival of scholarship. In the Middle Ages, there was a point where stagnation and certain decadence in the development of intellectual awareness and art took place. It was in the time of Charlemagne that the greatest scholars of his time were brought to his court. It was his objective and desire to bring out the level of artistic creation and nourishment of literacy from the time of the ancient Rome. It was through his reign that Rome again became an ideal in the recovery of art, architecture, and philosophical writings.
