The reason is that it is connected to enlightened + liberty ideals. Assembly members prided selves in being part of only American colonies with active political participation and it is also closer to British ideal of freemen. In the years before 1764 a British identity started to change because the right to religious freedom, the colonist had felt they had the right to be free men and also to live where the chose too.
