The New England Colonies were largely farming and fishing communities. Crops like corn and wheat grew in large numbers, and much was shipped to England. 

The Middle Colonies were part agriculture, part industrial. Wheat and other grains grew on farms in Pennsylvania and New York. 

The Southern Colonies were almost entirely agricultural. The main feature was the plantation, a large plot of land that contained a great many acres of farmland and buildings in which lived the people who owned the land and the people who worked the land.

Southern plantations grew tobacco, rice, and indigo, which they sold to buyers in England and elsewhere in America.

There was established an aristocratic society anchored in the tradition of the field based on an eminently agricultural economy where the main economic retribution was obtained from the work of slaves in large tracts of land with crops.

-The main colonies of the center of the present territory of the United States were Pennsylvania, founded in 1681; Delaware, which was first colonized by Dutch for in 1682 to pass to English administrative control; New York and New Jersey. The composition of the immigrant population that arrived in this area marked the diversity of beliefs and nationalities that existed in it.

-The Massachusetts Bay Colony, the historical forerunner of today  US state of Massachusetts, was an English colony in New England. It was founded in 1629 by a charter of the English king and was subsequently populated and run by English Puritans who had fled from religious persecution in Great Britain.
