In general, the main difference between socialism and capitalism is that socialism calls for a division of wealth among the population while capitalism encourages the pursuit of self-interest.
Capitalism- means of production and distribution of goods and wealth are controlled by individuals and operated for profit. The government does not control or regulate buisness of individuals

Adam Smith- laissez faire capitalism is an example and the US use capitalism
Each person as an individual recieves the amount of profit they make alone
Socialism- the government controls and regulates buisness (trade and production) of the country as a whole
Ex. Communism
Everyone is equal and recieves equal amounts of profit (sharing)
